you've decided it's “becoming the thing you hate" but how about rather "becoming the thing you were made for (just very literally and in a manner oppositional to the thing you hate)”

#this is the way i approach ren (obviously.) but it's also the far more interesting perspective to adopt for ascended astarion.#he doesnt become the thing he hates. he far surpasses it #he was made to serve the ritual as a means to its end; he becomes the end.#he reneges from his “predecessor” and steps into a new position of power that he is first in.#he doesnt “invent” it like ren does (sort of like ish) but he carves it out by his own hand.#astarion ancunin #ascended astarion #bg3 #: ascent.#: little star.#that is key here though: doing so in a way that completely defies the thing that “made” you/its expectations in the first place.
